Reviews
Very comfortable and welcoming onsen. They have an extensive library and excellent meals. The baths are good and there are also hiking trails from the property.
Nice friendly staff, one of the best kaiseki dinners I've eaten, and warm onsen, ladies have more variety though. But they allowed us to book rotenburo for private use for 30 minutes for free. The lobby space is nice, relaxing and cozy, also very instafriendly
My husband and I LOVED it here. He is a bookworm and was in paradise with the collection the hotel has. The food was delicious, and made with local ingredients. The facilities were recently renovated so everything feels new and clean, especially the baths, of which there are a few varieties. The service was outstanding, they catered to every need. I actually came down with a fever while here, and they were amazing. They changed the menu multiple times for me so that I could eat food that was easy on my stomach (they gave me dishes that weren’t even on the menu). They let us borrow a thermometer and even had medicine that I could take. I was really touched by how caring the staff was. We will definitely come back many more times. I highly recommend this onsen.
Best Japanese hotel for any bookworm!Extensive and so beautifully designed incorporated library throughout hotel.Books available in many languages.Few rooms have very exclusive design. Onsens are lovely and world recommend visiting all of those.
Surrounding area and garden is well taken care of ,and near by is beautiful waterfall.
Target Customers: The hotel can accommodate all customers, from young to old.
Comfort: The rooms were standard size for a Japanese hotel. The room is Japanese style where customers sleep on futons. The futon was very thick, soft and comfortable.
Hospitality: The customer service was outstanding and friendly. The staff members made us feel at home and they were very accommodating to our requests.
Facilities: The hotel was clean and well kept. There were 3 private onsen on the premises. Massages are available at additional cost.
Food: On the premises, there are a course menu restaurant, a ramen restaurant and a café open to all guests. The course restaurant offered Tateshina cuisine which was very unique. Compared to other Japanese style hotels the quantity was less but not too little.
Onsen: There are separate male/female and an outside onsen open to guests. There is also the option to request one of the three private onsens. This is a 30 min complimentary service available once per day.
Accessibility: The hotel is accessible by direct train from Shinjuku (3 hours) and hotel provided shuttle bus. However, I would recommend guests to travel by car to enjoy the beautiful drive. The hotel is about 3 hours away from Tokyo, Shinjuku by toll highway.
Price: The standard price is $160 per person/per night (min 2 people). Alcoholic drinks start at $5. Credit cards are accepted.
Overall Recommendation: I would rate this hotel 4 out 5. The hotel was good. The food was very good but not excellent. The service was awesome and the view made us give this hotel a recommend.
Amazing interior layout with books. The whole lobby is like a library. The staff is excellent.
This place had me at hello. The complimentary welcome drink and exquisite hospitality, the book-lined walls, breathtaking onsen and fantastic food - this was one of the best!
This might just be the greatest hotel in the country. This is a place that is worth returning to, planing the entire vacation around even. The food was the greatest, the staff is the nicest and the baths are the most comfortable.
